'Modern Family's' Eric Stonestreet Is Norwegian Aqua's Godfather

Eric Stonestreet, best known for his lovable role as Cameron Tucker on Modern Family, has become the godfather of Norwegian Aqua.

The Prima Plus class ships will debut in April 2025, with a christening ceremony scheduled for April 13 in Miami. During the event, Stonestreet will break champagne bottles on the bow of Aqua to honor the maritime tradition and wish the ship and its passengers good luck.

Stonestreet won America's hearts as a mainstay on the ABC sitcom Modern Family, which aired from 2009 to 2020. His performance in the series earned him two Emmy Awards.

The 53-year-old actor has also lent his talents to other lighter fare, such as “Identity Thief” and “The Secret Life of Pets.” In addition, Stonestreet hosts the reality series Domino Masters and is part of the Disney+ streaming series The Santa Clause.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) President David J. Herrera was impressed with Stonestreet's charm and sense of humor and said they were a perfect match for the 156,300-ton ship and the cruise line.

“Eric’s sincerity, intelligence, charisma and genuine desire to bring happiness to the masses embody the role of the Godfather of Norwegian Aqua, but also embody who we are and what we stand for as a company. We are honored to have Eric as a member of Norwegian Aqua Godfather,” Herrera declared.

The Norwegian Aqua has a colorful hull design and sails through calm blue ocean under clear skies. With multiple decks, swimming pools and a unique central funnel, this ship is reminiscent of a charming blend of style and glamor of a modern home.

Stonestreet shared his excitement, saying: “I’m blown away by what’s coming to Aqua Norway, I can’t wait to ride the Aqua Slidecoaster, enjoy red curry at the brand new Sukhothai restaurant and most importantly create a lifetime experience. Memories of being on board this innovative new ship with my own family.”

After the naming ceremony, Norwegian Aqua will launch a seven-day cruise from Port Canaveral, taking guests to Caribbean ports of call such as Tortola in the British Virgin Islands; St. Tomas and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Itineraries will also include NCL's exclusive destination in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.

Following its maiden season, the 3,571-passenger ship will conduct seasonal five- and seven-day cruises between October 2025 and April 2026 and November 2026 and March 2027. Caribbean sailing.
